The JCC and BBYO's Teen Connection are offering a Spring Break
Adventure Camp for 5th-8th graders.

Here is a brief description of the Camp:

The East Bay JCC and BBYO's Teen Connection team up to offer specialty
Spring Break programming for 5th-8th graders! Looking for a Spring
Break adventure without going too far from home? Sign up for Adventure
Camp! April 6th-10th join us for fun, leadership-development infused
day trips to local gems. At Albany Bulb, we'll explore urban art and
art as a tool for social change. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve will
acquaint us with some of the best tide pools on the West Coast. We'll
hike to the highest point in Oakland, savoring the awe-inspiring
beauty of redwoods, and barbeque together in Redwood Regional Park.
For our finale, we'll have a blast driving go-carts, playing laser
tag, and enjoying the arcade at Boomers!

One Summer…Two Choices! Spend Summer 2009 on PanimWorks: An Activist's Adventure!

PanimWorks: DC JAM, on the campus of The George Washington University, is a leadership training program for teens passionate about politics, community service, activism, and Judaism. Become a leader in the political world and the Jewish community today! Learn about key issues impacting the U.S. and the world through interactions with leading U.S. policymakers and experts, while exploring the connection between Judaism and advocacy. Participate in meaningful hands-on service projects, while earning community service-learning hours. Develop the skills to pioneer change and impact the issues you care about. Two 2-week sessions or a four week session (including a bonus opportunity of a placement in DC agency) will be offered for students currently in grades 10-12. www.dcjam.org

PanimWorks: Southwest is a cultural exchange and community service program on a Native American Reservation in the American Southwest. Make a difference as you live in rustic accommodations on a Native American reservation, interacting with members of the Zuni and Hopi Nations while working together to promote positive change. This trip in the majestic Southwest includes hands-on service projects as well as outdoor recreational activities. Make lifelong friends and learn about the ethical values that define Jewish life while earning up to 45 community service-learning hours. The Berkeley Jewish Community Center is proud to offer an exciting new program for 6th-8th graders. Young Leaders Create Change (YLCC) is a semester-long leadership training adventure! Students participate in interactive workshops twice a week covering topics essential for high school and college success such as team building, communication, conflict resolution, identity exploration, and public speaking. In order to broaden our Young Leaders? understandings of the world and their role within it, we will explore connections between the Ethical Jewish tradition and current social justice issues such as media literacy, arts and social change, food and gender politics. In partnership with BBYO?s Teen Connections, students participate in monthly service celebrations and practice hands-on leadership skills through creative community improvement projects, such as our Trees for the 21st Century initiative. Learning practical skills, discovering their passions, and stepping outside of their comfort zones, participants develop foundations for lifelong civic engagement as community leaders, advocates, and change-makers.

When: Wednesdays and Fridays 4-6pm, Kicking off on Martin Luther King Jr.

Shalhevet 2009

Shalhevet ("flame" in Hebrew) is a transformative journey to Poland and Israel for Bay Area High School Juniors and Seniors. Inspired by March of the Living, Shalhevet is a way for local Jewish teens to participate in a program specifically tailored to the educational and cultural environment of the Bay Area.

Regional seminars run from January to May and the group will travel March 16-March 30, 2009.

· Learn about the thriving Jewish culture in Poland before WWII and today.

· Witness the concentration camps through the eyes of a survivor traveling with the group.

· Meet with Polish and Israeli teens to get a taste of their lives.

· Experience Israel: the people, the culture and the homeland.

· Examine today's political and geopolitical challenges in Israel.

The theme of this convention is "Judaism in the Arts". We will explore Jews and Judaism through different artistic media, and even create some of our own!

The weekend will feature engaging programming, a 60's themed casino night, SA/TO projects, tye-dye, friends, food and more!

The fun begins at Congregation Kol Emeth in Palo Alto at 3:30pm on Friday, November 21 and won't stop until Sunday, November 23 at 1:30pm. We hope to see you there.
